#Canada's Competition Bureau has launched an inquiry into #Lululemon Athletica Inc. following a complaint from environmental nonprofit Stand.earth, which accuses the yoga apparel company of misleading consumers with its environmental claims.
Stand.earth alleges that Lululemon engages in "greenwashing," exaggerating or misrepresenting its environmental initiatives. Todd Paglia, Stand.earth's Executive Director, welcomed the inquiry, stating that it stems from their complaint and aims to investigate Lululemon's practices. The complaint questions Lululemon's "Be Planet" marketing slogan, claiming it contradicts the company's actual environmental impact, citing a purported 100% increase in emissions since its adoption in 2020.
In response, the Competition Bureau has initiated an inquiry into potential violations of the Competition Act related to false environmental representations. Lululemon defends its initiatives, highlighting achievements like renewable energy use and emission reductions. However, Stand.earth asserts that Lululemon's reliance on #fossil fuels and #petrochemical-based products undermines its claims. They also raise concerns about Lululemon's partnership with Team Canada for the upcoming Olympics, urging alignment with Canadian values and transparency in marketing.
